Mike & Sally from Rochdale sent us this story of their holiday in the Lake District

We had such a lovely time that we thought we would write about our holiday in the Lake District.

We left a cold grey Rochdale on Friday morning all set for our 2 hour drive up the M6 North to The Lake District, as we came of the motorway onto the A591 it really started to rain heavy, the felling was not very good as we had planned so many outdoor type activities, anyway we followed the road past Kendal and onto Windermere, for the first night we stayed in a lovely Guesthouse in Bowness only 2 minutes form the main village area and probably 3 minutes from Lake Windermere with the steam boats, we checked in to our guest house then went out for lunch at a small hotel in Bowness, that afternoon we took a slow walk around Bowness Bay, looking at the rowing boats for hire and steam boats that take you up or down the lake. We ate in a restaurant in Bowness before going to the cinema and out for a few drinks later that evening.

The second day was much better, the weather was great and the visitors were out in numbers, we walked down to Bowness Bay and took a ride on the steamboat named Teal, we got of in Ambleside and stolled around for the morning before returning to Bowness for our evening meal. The following day we booked out of our guest house in Bowness to travel further North into the Lake District, we were staying for 2 nights bed & breakfast in Grasmere, well known for its famous people, William Wordsworth we visited Dove Cottage, walked in the fells and had a great meal in one of the Grasmere Hotels, one thing we have to agree on is our thought for Lake District accommodation, it is really good, so far the beds we have had have been perfect.

North again to Keswick, probably the last well known town in the Lake District, Keswick is one of those places you just get to, I mean you approach over the brow of a hill and bam its there, this time our accommodation was a hotel for one night, hotels in Keswick are well known for their local beer, we took a rowing boat on Derwent Water the whole afternoon then went to the theatre by the lake and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

We enjoyed our Lake District holiday, a bit short but we will be back the accommodation was great and the weather wasnt as bad as everybody says, well atleast not for us it held out and we loved it, look out Lakes, we will be back.
