The
change in civil partnership legislation means that same sex partners
can have their love and commitment to each other recognised in a
civil ceremony. Cumbria had a unanimous vote to perform full ceremonies,
rather than just the legal registration as other areas have done
…. It is such a beautiful place. |

Many
Lakeland hotels already have been certified to perform heterosexual marriages
and are welcoming, with open arms, civil partnerships.
What
is different about civil partnerships is that couples have more choice.
A civil partnership is broken into 3 stages:
- Pre
registration – legal notice of intent this has to be noted 16
days at least before your big day (please contact the registry office
for full details)
- Partnership
registration (the legal bit) which is preformed by a partnership registrar
and then.
- The
Ceremony.
The
legal aspect and the ceremony can be combined, as is the case in a heterosexual
marriage ceremony. However, for civil partnership the registrar need not
attend the ceremony aspect giving you a wider choice of where the actual
ceremony takes place – a choice that is not open to heterosexual
couples. Therefore, if you want the ceremony to take place on a hotel
veranda, a lake cruise, a viewpoint or on a hill side then all this is
all possible.
For
example, you could deal with the legal aspects in a designated hotel or
at the registry office and then have your ceremony at sunset on the lake
shore or hilltop with your friends and family present.
This
is a special day for any couple so why not get have the ceremony you have
always wanted, and waited so long for, in England's largest National park
and one of the countries most romantic locations.
The
Lakes has so much choice for example, boat hire, rock climbing, parachuting,
firework displays, breath taking views. All the facilities – hotels,
car hire, wedding
photographers, catering, wedding co-ordinators etc. are already in
place to welcome civil partnerships and help you plan your day.
There
are lots of hotels to cater for a variety of requirements so why not take
over a whole hotel with your friends and family for a weekend, have a
marquee or have your partnership confirmed with just the two of you in
a special setting. In addition there are lots of guest houses and self
catering accommodation to suit your needs.
After
your celebration, why not stay for a romantic honeymoon and enjoy country
walk, log fires, spa facilities, fine wines and superb food. Your special
day is the start of your life together as a recognised partnership so
let that new life begin in Cumbria.
